Recently, I saw The Vagina Monologues. I enjoyed the performances and I was moved by their message of
rising up against violence toward women. It’s disheartening to know one in three women worldwide have been raped or abused.
I, too, am rising up against the violence by writing this letter. What disappointed me about the evening was that alcohol was offered for sale.
Many women have been abused, sexually assaulted and even murdered by someone under the influence of alcohol.
How is it that the whole evening was dedicated to ending the abuse toward women yet one of the contributing
factors was offered? It didn’t make sense to me and I hope in the future alcohol will not be offered.
