Motorists advised to avoid Coq, take Highway 1

Heavy snowfall on the Coquihalla has Drive B.C. recommending motorists take Highway 1 instead.

Conditions are especially bad between Hope and Merritt.

Environment Canada is forecasting heavy snowfall Friday on the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt.

Snowfall will amount to between 10 and 15 cm during the day, with reduced visibility in the morning.

Another 10 to 15 cm is expected in the evening with winds gusting up to 60 km/h, creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.

The highway between Merritt and Kamloops won't be quite so bad. A few flurries are forecast for the morning. Gusty wind and reduced visibility are also expected.
