Pot grower taken out of court by ambulance

An obese 62-year-old man awaiting sentencing for marijuana trafficking was taken away by paramedics from a B.C. Supreme courtroom Monday.

Cornelis Wierks sat in the gallery in the afternoon awaiting sentencing. He appeared to have difficulty breathing and was grimacing.

When justice Joel Groves told him that paramedics were being called, Wierks muttered several times, "I just want to get this over with."

Wierks was eventually helped from the courtroom by first responders, stabilized outside and taken to Royal Inland Hospital.

Wierks pleaded guilty earlier to possession for the purpose of trafficking after being found with 900 marijuana plants. He was due to be sentenced after a police raid in Blind Bay.

No details of the plea were read out in court Monday.
