Speak up and put stop to proposed Ajax mine

I know I am only 16 years old, and what do teenagers know these days? But when I see bumper stickers on the backs of cars walking to school that say “I support Ajax,” it gets me rather angry.

I can see the economic point of view, more jobs, which will mean more income for the people of Kamloops, which is never a bad thing. But what I would like to know is whether people think about the environmental impacts that this particular mine could have on our city.

I know, from my mom and my brother who have some lung issues, that the air quality here is already not fantastic. Can you imagine adding a giant mine, inside city limits, not to mention the fact that we would be putting a giant open hole in the ground?

As if we haven’t already done enough damage to the planet! Do people not realize that our Earth is not expendable and it won’t have all the things we need to sustain life forever?

If we want this to stop, we all have to speak out before it’s too late.
