Why is Walmart hanging on to penny?

With all the talk of abolishing the penny, I was hoping to reduce the weight in my coin purse pretty quickly.

I’ve been impress-ed with how most businesses in Kamloops have been on board from Day 1. However, there is one very notable exception. Twice since the death of the penny, I have bought something at Walmart. The totals came to $19.91 and $43.02 respectively.

Did Walmart round down? Not on your life! In both cases I ended up with a fistful of pennies.

My husband asked the clerk about it and her reply was that Walmart will round down the day Walmart runs out of pennies. So I’m guessing our grandchildren’s grandchildren will still be getting pennies back from Walmart.

    Really? I’m not impressed.
