Give auditor general power to review gov’t ad spending

What a waste of taxpayers’ money are those non-stop B.C. Liberal advertisements that are flooding my TV.

Three months before the May 14 election, more than $16 million is being spent on this blatant propaganda.

This is almost as much as the amount committed to fund the actual training included in the government’s much-touted jobs plan.

    What hypocrisy!

I read in the paper about an NDP proposal where this kind of misuse of public funds would be eliminated. B.C.’s auditor general should be responsible for reviewing and approving all government advertising. This would ensure tax money isn’t wasted playing politics as Premier Christy Clark is doing.

I have written to Clark, Kevin Krueger and Terry Lake regarding this and not one of them has had the courtesy to answer.

We’re talking about more than $16 million of our tax dollars. At the same time, the Liberals have cut funding to special-needs students and seniors and our hospitals have ongoing needs.

They also cut the Science World program and B.C. PALS, which helped make science come alive to hundreds of Kamloops students. After commenting on its benefits last year, Clark axed it. She needed the money for her self-
    promoting TV ads.

Hopefully, when the new government is elected in May, it will spend our tax money on the community-based programs that address real needs instead of on political advertising.
