Suspect caught within a block after pickup truck break-in

It didn't take police long to catch up with a man spotted breaking into a pickup truck in the 400 block of McGowan Avenue on Tuesday evening.

The alarm in a Ford F-150 went off at about 8 p.m., alerting a neighbour who went outside to confront the suspect. The owner also came out, along with another neighbour who recognized the man.

He took off before police arrived, but was caught by officers within a block of the incident, carrying items stolen from the truck.

The window on the driver's side of the pickup was pried open, and the frame and trim were damaged. There was damage to the trailer brake assembly line and the gear shift and a stereo faceplate were removed.

Total damage is estimated at $1,100.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on charges of theft and mischief to property.
