A Shuswap Lake wood carver is homeless after a fire tore through his residence near Silvery Beach.
Squilax fire department deputy chief Dale Geck said firefighters were dispatched to the home, which is located on the Trans-Canada Highway, at 10 p.m. Tuesday.
“It was so hot and so engulfed there was nothing we could do except keep the buildings around it from burning,” Geck said Thursday.
The home and a nearby shop burned to the ground, but firefighters did keep the flames from spreading to a neighbour’s house, he said.
Firefighters were on scene until 6 a.m. The tenant wasn’t home when the fire started, but returned while crews battled the blaze. Geck said he hasn’t been seen since.
Neither the tenant nor landlord was insured. The cause of the fire is unknown.
The Daily News learned the tenant’s name is Gary Foster.
