I have been driving for 70 years, turning in my Class 1 licence when I was 78, and I’m having trouble understanding the controversy over large trucks (semis and B-trains) still using Highway 5A when the newer and safer Coquihalla Highway with weigh scales is right next door.
Knutsford hill really worries me. Doesn’t anybody remember the horrific fatal crash where a truck ran away on Columbia Street about 20 years ago? It could happen again at the traffic light at Rogers Way and Highway 5A or the No. 368 exit as I have often noticed trucks coming down the hill with smoking brakes, meaning less braking power.
I hope that someone in government (City and provincial) will reconsider this potentially dangerous situation before anyone else loses their life.
