Rockslide blocks portion of Hugh Allan

A portion of Hugh Allan Drive is closed due to a rock slide that happened Saturday evening.

A wall of rocks came tumbling onto Hugh Allan Drive striking a vehicle on Saturday evening and shutting down traffic.

The yellow Saturn sat abandoned covered in rocks all day Sunday and the portion of road leading to the Costco remains closed with City of Kamloops barricades.

The driver was reportedly uninjured, according to RCMP Sgt. Natalie Fehr.

"Some rocks came down onto the roadway so the roadway's been closed because it breached a concrete barrier on the south side by Costco," she said.

The concrete barrier was erected after similar slides in the area.

Traffic is being diverted to Copperhead Drive until at least Monday when geotechnical experts will be brought in to determine the stability of the slope.
