Which downtown restaurant is preferred by Hollywood stars when they’re in Kamloops?
Where did J-Lo stay when she was in Ashcroft?
The answers to such trivial questions can be found on a production-location Google map at the website tnrdlocationsmoviemap.com.
With funding from the Northern Development Initiative Trust, the TNRD has set up the web page to promote filmmaking and tourism in the region. The map details 100 projects at 250 locations.
By clicking on the icons or using the pull-down menu, website visitors can find out where a project was shot, view location photos and read a brief sypnosis of the project. They can also find information about the cast and crew, or discover little-known facts about the making of the project. As well, there are links to movie databases and trailers.
The website is meant to pique curiosity while calling attention to a point of pride for area residents, said Vicci Weller, executive director of film for the TNRD.
“Film tourism is a niche tourism market that promotes filmmaking and travel because people are curious,” Weller said. “Also, it’s fun to brag about what’s been filmed in our home towns when relatives, friends and colleagues visit.”
The site will grow as more information is shared, she added. For a start, Tobiano deserves a star for hosting Robert Redford during the making of An Unfinished Life.
