Pot worth $1.15 million seized in grow-op bust

Dangerous setup near 100 Mile House had potential for fire or electrocution, police say

Four men face drug trafficking charges after Mounties found a marijuana grow operation and bags of dried bud on a property about 50 kilometres southeast of 100 Mile House.

The grow op was in a house and outbuilding on Coglan Road near Roe Lake, RCMP said in a press release.

Officers seized 1,015 marijuana plants, about 23 kilograms of dried marijuana and growing equipment.

"The estimated street value of this drug seizure was over $1.15 million dollars," said Const. Lesley Smith, North District media relations officer.

"The plants from the outbuilding had recently been harvested and the bud was packaged and ready to be transported. These bags will now be transported by the RCMP then destroyed."

Police found a makeshift room in the outbuilding that housed chemicals and metal shelving units holding industrial electrical cables and ballasts.

Nearby were two 45-gallon barrels with water and nutrients for the plants.

"This was an extremely dangerous setup as the use of enormous amounts of electricity near an open water source can result in electrocution or a potential fire," Smith said.

Three men from the Lower Mainland and one from Poland will appear in court on July 2 in 100 Mile House.
