For the 10th year running, the annual Ruth's Night fundraiser is offering women a fashion show, desserts and door prizes. This year's gathering is slated for Friday, March 15, starting at 7 p.m. at the Kamloops Full Gospel Church, 1550 Tranquille Rd. The event is aimed at adult women (bring friends) and costs $10 at the door. There will be a gift basket bonanza, life-changing testimonials and raffles. Oh, and the desserts are being touted as "decadent." All proceeds go to the House of Ruth.
Activist speaks on mining
El Salvadoran activist Vidalina Morales de Gamez will speak on Sunday about the impact of Canadian mining operations in her country. She is currently on tour, raising awareness of a call to ban metallic mining over environmental and water concerns. Two local speakers will briefly address issues with the Ajax and Ruddick mine proposals. The free talk, hosted by the Council of Canadians, takes place at noon at the Smorgasbord Deli, 225 Seventh Ave.
