Slippery Coquihalla leads to series of crashes

Icy roads and compact snow led to a number of crashes on the Coquihalla Highway Wednesday just after 6 p.m., police report.

About two kilometres from the brake check near Kamloops, the driver of a Chevy Cobalt was headed north when he struck debris on the road from a previous crash.

The driver and two passengers left the scene after calling a tow truck. Once they were gone, a second vehicle — a Toyota Rav — ran into the Cobalt.

There were no injuries in either incident.

While responding these crashes, police came across a jackknifed semi-trailer truck off the road in the ditch near Inks Lake.

The driver told police his brakes locked up on him. The red Freightliner sustained extensive damage, including a bent frame, but the driver was not hurt.
