Coroner identifies victim in burning car that crashed into chartered bus

The B.C. Coroner’s Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died when he was trapped in his burning car near Cache Creek.

Twenty-four-year-old Allen Edward Power of Sorrento was driving a vehicle that collided with a chartered bus on Highway 1, about 15 kilometres east of Cache Creek a week ago.

Five people on the bus carrying Special Olympians were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The athletes were on their way to a competition in Kelowna in the mid-afternoon, when police say a car travelling in the wrong lane hit the bus head on and burst into flames.

Police said the damage to the car was so extensive that they didn’t have a licence plate number.

Coach Calvin Dyck said it was a horrible experience for his athletes because the victim in the burning car couldn’t be helped.
