A small piece of land had the potential to create a big hassle for an Aberdeen business owner.
Instead, City staff negotiated a five-year deal with W 440 Holdings Ltd. to lease a chunk of municipal land that unofficially became a back entrance to the company’s building off Pacific Way.
City real estate manager David Freeman said Monday the rear driveway was even gravelled. Unfortunately, it belonged to the City.
When the owner went to city hall for a permit last fall, staff noticed the driveway actually crossed municipal land.
“It’s a flat piece of hillside, drainage ravine behind him. We happened to have a piece of land that’s flat at the top, 22 feet wide,” he said.
The five-year lease will cost the company $5,400 per year. Council voted to offer two five-year renewals in future.
