Teams set for KMHA's Night of Champions

The Kamloops Minor Hockey Association’s Night of Champions is set.

The Night of Champions will run today at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre. It features championship finals in all four recreational age groups.

The atom final, scheduled to start on the NHL surface at 5 p.m., will pit the Sandman Hurricanes and the Sandman Roughnecks.

The Southgate Radiator Ice Dawgs and Kamloops Office Systems Thunderbirds will meet in the peewee final, which starts at 5:30 p.m., on the Olympic ice.

The Northern Trailer Oilers and Mansini Steel Beauts will fight in the bantam final, which starts at 7:15 in the NHL rink.

The midget final, which will be held on the Olympic ice starting at 7:45 p.m., will feature the Jani King Stars trying to take down Dirty Brian and the Boys.

The Boys knocked off Team 3, 5-1 in a semifinal Monday.

Darion Nordick had three goals for the winners, with Josh Huffman and Trent Taylor also scoring in support of winning goaltender Jake Birkland. Mac Whitmore was in goal for Team 3, which got a goal from Tyler Wightman.

In Monday’s other midget semifinal, the Stars got two goals from Dallas Stachoski and singles from Justin Bruno and Jordan Moore in a 4-2 victory over the Big Guns Energy Warriors. The two Coles — Feere and Loring — combined on winning goaltending.

Austin Pietramala and Cole Walters scored for the Warriors, who had Adam Passmore in goal.
