Kelly Olynyk named to All-America's first team

Gonzaga University centre Kelly Olynyk has been named to the Sporting News College Basketball All-America first team.

Olynyk, from Kamloops,  is averaging 17.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.

The Spokane-based Bulldogs take a 31-2 record and No. 1 national ranking into the NCAA tournament, where they hope to receive their first No. 1 seed when the brackets are announced on Sunday.

Olynyk was named the West Coast Conference player of the year and is a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy as the outstanding player in collegiate basketball.

Sporting News’ college basketball awards are decided on by the Sporting News editorial staff in consultation with coaches and scouts across the country.
