Why the media storm over a few choice words?

Regarding the whole Kevin Krueger “bullying” issue, in particular the Thursday, Feb. 28, We Say: This Time He’s Gone Too Far.

I find interesting the slant the editorial writer put on the commentary, where it is stated in part: “Our MLA used language that we won’t repeat here. . .”

    Are you kidding me?

The actual language he used has been reported in every paper, including The Daily News. The story said “political peers believe outspoken Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Kevin Krueger went too far when he referred to B.C. Conservatives as ‘unmitigated morons’ and ‘scum.’ ”

    Ouch! Cover the kids’ ears.

The Feb. 28 article makes it sound like Mr. Krueger used some very foul, hurtful and obscene language. What is the point of putting that spin on it, when the day before this very same paper was right in there quoting these “unrepeatable” words?

I really don’t know why. You will have to draw your own conclusions.

I should point out that I do not know

Mr. Krueger and I do not have a particular opinion about him one way or another. I do find it interesting whenever any politician actually says what he is thinking.

And what is with this whole bullying thing? Bullying, by definition, is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. One could make a case that Mr. Krueger’s words were abusive. But, really, such a huge media storm over this?

Do you really think the B.C. Conservative party is intimidated or feels coerced by these statements? As a politician, you had better have a thicker skin than that.

Have you ever watched our beloved leaders in the House of Commons?

Said news reader Peter Mansbridge, referring to House of Commons incident in December 2011: “The insults and insolence Canadians have come to expect from their members of Parliament, hit a new low today . . .” as he referred to Justin Trudeau calling Peter Kent a “piece of shit” in the House of Commons.

It would be interesting to look back into The Daily News archives and see just how they referred to this statement . . . even though they could not bring themselves to write the words “scum” and “unmitigated morons.”
