Four Kamloops teams off to hockey provincials

Four Kamloops teams are headed to provincial hockey championships next week.

The Jardine's Blazers are scheduled to open the B.C. Bantam Tier 1 championship in Duncan on Sunday. Kamloops, the Okanagan champion, is one of six teams to take part in the tournament

The Blazers will open against Victoria, and also will play the hosts, North Shore Winter Club, Burnaby Winter Club and Prince George in the round-robin. The top two teams will play in the final on Wednesday evening.

Another Jardine's Blazers squad - the Peewee Tier 1 team - will be in Vancouver for provincials. The Blazers will open against Prince George on Monday, and also will play the Burnaby and North Shore winter clubs, host Vancouver and Victoria.

Like the bantam tournament, the top two teams after the round-robin will meet in the provincial final on Thursday night.

It won't be a long trip to provincials for Kamloops' bantam female squad, which will open the nine-team tournament in Vernon on Sunday. Kamloops will play three round-robin games - against North Shore, Terrace and Cranbrook - and will look to qualify for Wednesday's semifinals. The final also is scheduled for Wednesday.

The North Kamloops Lions are headed to Creston for Peewee Tier 3 provincials starting Sunday.

There are 11 teams in the tournament, and Kamloops will play four round-robin games. The top two teams in each division - the Lions' division has five teams, while the other has six - will move into Thursday's semifinals, with the final scheduled for March 22.

Kamloops will open against Terrace on Sunday, and also will play Mill Bay's Kerry Park, Vancouver's Arbutus and Cranbrook.

There are 15 B.C. Hockey championships going on next week, with five in each of the bantam, peewee and midget divisions.
