An off-duty sheriff stopped an attack on a man being hit with a club Monday night on the Overlanders Bridge, Kamloops RCMP said.
The 39-year-old victim was heading home on his bike at about 8:30 p.m. with family members when a 27-year-old cyclist set upon him for no apparent reason. He suffered cuts around his eyes and forehead.
The sheriff used his bike to protect the injured man and himself, then held the attacker for police.
"His actions prevented further injuries and resulted in a serious incident being controlled," Const. Bernie Ward said.
The attacker was held overnight in police custody and was to appear in court Tuesday morning.
