Munitions experts from the Department of National Defence were making their way to Kamloops Thursday after what appeared to be unexploded ordnance was found at the Telus data centre construction site.
Kamloops RCMP evacuated the site on Bunker Road Thursday afternoon, Const. Bernie Ward said.
"It's been isolated and made secure," he said. "They are taking a prudent approach."
The item that was found is being referred to as "unknown military hardware." It will not be known whether it is dangerous until after the inspection by a team from Victoria.
