The Vernon man allegedly killed by his residential-care roommate last weekend has been named.
William George May’s family asked RCMP to release his name after a request for privacy earlier in the week.
May died Sunday night at Polson Extended Care near Vernon Jubilee Hospital. His 95-year-old roommate, John “Jack” Furman, has been charged with murder and is in the Hillside Psychiatric Centre in Kamloops undergoing assessment.
May was a long-time resident of Vernon. Polson Extended Care is a 26-bed facility for people with dementia and related behavioural issues.
Vernon RCMP spokesman Gordon Molendyk said Thursday May’s family wanted people to know who was killed instead of him being referred to as “the victim” without a name.
