What’s red, has 14 legs and a persistent smile?
The Kamloops Customer Care and Patrol Team — CAP for short — which did its last walk around the block for the summer on Friday.
Sponsored by the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association, the team performs a dual role — public safety and visitor hospitality.
According to figures kept through the season, the seven post-secondary students on the team had their work cut out for them. They lent assistance to 659 tourists and 59 businesses. On 116 occasions, they went to the aid of street people and helped outreach support. They contacted the RCMP 36 times, which resulted in 13 arrests.
Six times they contacted the ambulance service and eight times they applied first aid. A total of 62 needles were found and safely disposed.
The team gets around. They cycled a total of 1,283 kilometres and walked even farther — 2,171 clicks.
