Bystanders helped chase down a thief who smashed his way into a business in the 400 block of Victoria Street at about midnight Thursday, Kamloops RCMP said.
The man was seen looking around the counters and till, then taking off down Victoria Street.
"He was in full flight when members of the public that had witnessed his crime tackled him to the ground," Const. Bernie Ward said.
"He managed to get up and was again running with the Good Samaritan now chasing him."
The man was finally nabbed by police officers, who found stolen property on him.
Ward said that while police are pleased that bystanders helped catch the thief, they don't want to see anyone getting hurt.
"When people are cornered and fleeing they may be desperate to the point that they use violence to escape with innocent people being hurt.
"The police never want to see it turn bad for the general public so the best practice is to call the police continue to watch and provide evidence to the investigators they can use to convict these criminals."
The man was expected to face charges sometime Friday.
