The Daily News Christmas Cheer Fund continues to accept applications from area charities wanting to be part of the fun this time around.
Over the past 11 festive seasons, you have given the Christmas Cheer Fund a total of $578,138.98, every penny of which has ended up in the hands of local charities.
Last season, we set a record as you donated $101,261.30.
If you are involved with a registered area charity and would like to be considered, click on the Christmas Cheer Fund logo — it’s right there on the left-hand side — and read the instructions. They are neither long-winded nor difficult.
The selected charities will be responsible for the issuing of receipts to donors.
Applications will be accepted through Sept. 30, after which members of the fund’s selection committee will choose the successful applicants. Members of the committee are Tim Shoults, the publisher of The Daily News; Gregg Drinnan, the paper’s sports editor; Jo-Ann Lovesy, who works in the paper’s accounting department and helps administer the fund over the Christmas season; Scott Huyghebaert of the Kamloops law firm Morelli LLP; Larry Read, the sports information officer at Thompson Rivers University; and Dean Nicholson of Investors Group Financial Services Inc.
A decision will be reached prior to mid-November, at which time the selected charities will be contacted and a story announcing such will appear in The Daily News.
