I thought that enough sucking up to Big Oil occurred on the pages of Postmedia and other publications!? Alas no! Your Aug. 28 We Say shows that belly crawling to the energy companies also occurs sadly on the pages of The Daily News, sadly!
Pipelines Aid All Provinces . . . how? That proposed Northern Gateway thing is just an environmental disaster waiting to happen! Anyone stupid enough to try to send a loaded supertanker down through Douglas Channel simply doesn’t know what they are talking about.
That Keystone Kops thing that nobody in the U.S seems to want is just a waste of time.
The one pipeline that does make economic sense is the one running across the country to the refineries in the East. This would keep jobs in Canada and contribute to this country’s energy independence.
However the idea of using an existing pipeline which (and I’m guessing here) doesn’t come up to the standard of moving heated, pressurized and highly corrosive diluted bitumen is not a good idea.
So a new pipeline would probably have to be constructed?
Better still, build a refinery right at Fort McMurray. This way a far more valuable finished and much safer product could be moved by pipeline, railroad, whatever. Jobs and energy independence would be the result of this action.
You’d think that even those Albertans would figure that one out. After all, what has all their oil wealth done for them except leave them $6 billion in the red?
But no! There’s an idea that if one can get that low value, highly toxic bitumen to the tideline it will be more valuable.
There’s no evidence of any of this, except bitumen is the height of folly.
