On a recent trip we stopped at Mad Creek near Avola. We’ve stopped there for many years but not recently. It was a beautiful spot. The rushing white-water creek totally blocked out all sounds of the road traffic just metres away. A great break during the long drive to Jasper.
The emphasis is on “was.” The area is now a sprawling dump with toilet paper, crap piles, urine holes and assorted garbage. A quite disgusting and unacceptable spot that was once beautiful and serene.
I encourage MP Cathy McLeod and MLA Todd Stone, minister of transportation, to get out at Mad Creek. Walk down to the rushing river and step across some of the beautiful smooth stones. If they get that far (a few feet only from the highway), they will have shared my horror.
Let me encourage the Ministry of Transportation to install and maintain a couple of outhouses. Visitors from across Canada stop there as they drive through the Rockies. It is an embarrassment to all “Beautiful B.C.” residents. A similar scene was at Blue River.
As I did, I encourage readers to write to Stone and McLeod about this and ask them to restore Mad Creek to its former pristine state.
