An 85-year-old woman died at the scene Sunday afternoon after a vehicle hit a culvert 14 kilometres south of Avola on Highway 5.
The Vancouver Island woman was travelling south with her 76-year-old husband when their vehicle left the road.
After hitting the culvert, it launched into a power pole then flipped several times before coming to a rest in a ditch. The woman was ejected from the vehicle.
The male driver was cut free from the vehicle and taken to Clearwater hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken leg. He was later taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops for further treatment.
Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the crash, RCMP said, but it is believed that the woman was not wearing a seatbelt.
