The Kamloops Rugby Club Raiders picked up a pair of victories in their first weekend of B.C. Rugby Union action.
The Raiders’ firsts defeated Coquitlam’s United Club 32-12 at the Tournament Capital Ranch in Rayleigh, before Kamloops’ seconds ran to a 50-34 victory over United’s seconds.
Brandon Kicia had a big day for the firsts, running in a try along with kicking three conversions and two penalties. Greg Thomson, Hayes Bishop and Shayne Arthurs also scored tries for the firsts.
The seconds got four tries from Wes Black, with Joe Castellano, Tyrone McCabe and Stirling Gathergood also finding the end zone. Jordan Sullivan made three conversions and a penalty, with Chris Chan booting three conversions as well.
The Raiders men are scheduled to play Abbotsford on Saturday, while the Raiders women will open their season against Seattle at the TCR at 11 a.m.

Five Kamloops girls will lead the Thompson Okanagan Rockets major midgets this hockey season.
The Rockets, featuring 15- to 17-year-old hockey players from the Okanagan and Thompson regions, will play in the six-team B.C. female major midget league. The season is scheduled to start this month.
Lindsey Rose and Courtney Morice, both 17, represent Kamloops on the Rockets, along with 15-year-olds Taylor Finnie, and Skwye and Emma Gottfriedson. Sheldon Morice is listed as an assistant coach with the Rockets.

Lorne Rowe’s hat trick helped Frick and Frack defeat Duffy’s Pub 7-1 in a Kamloops Recreational Soccer League 45-plus division game Sunday.
Bill Bilton also scored twice for the winners, with Rob Bittante and Tony Scarcello each scoring once. Christian Gayfer and Phil Read split the goalkeeping for Frick and Frack.
Rob Purdy scored for Duffy’s, which had Wally Brain in goal.
Also on Sunday, Kamcon defeated NRI Distribution 2-1. Todd Wiseman and Kevin Barrie scored first-half goals for Kamcon. Luis Adamo replied for NRI.
