Community input on site options for a new Logan Lake fire hall go before council on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
District administration and the volunteer fire department, which share the same premises, have outgrown the building, fire chief Dan Leighton said on Tuesday.
Constructing a new fire hall will enable administrative services to expand district offices into the space occupied by the existing fire hall, thereby resolving two issues.
“We’re right in the early stages,” Leighton said of the planning process.
At an open house two weeks ago, the district presented two site options to the public. One proposal is to locate the fire hall across the street from the public works building; the other is a site next to the arena.
The community has until Friday, 4 p.m., to submit comments. Information packages are available at the district office for anyone who didn’t attend the open house.
Leighton figured it could take another year or more before construction proceeds. The next issue council must decide is budgeting for the project.
He spoke in the absence of acting mayor Robin Smith and chief administrative officer Wayne Vollrath, who were attending the UBCM annual meeting. Mayor Marlon Dosch, who works for the Ministry of Lands Forests and Natural Resource Operations, is on a five-month educational leave of absence.
