The TRU WolfPack golf team had a tough weekend at the UBC-Okanagan Invitational tournament in Kelowna on the weekend.
TRU’s men finished sixth overall in the second event of the Pacific Western Athletic Association season, while its women were fourth. The WolfPack men’s two-day total was 615, well back of the first-place Fraser Valley Cascades (564). TRU’s women shot 377, with the Cascades shooting 309 to take gold.
Nick Corno was the top TRU golfer, going 73-75 to finish tied for 14th. He was 16 strokes back of UFV’s Darren Whitehouse, who posted a pair of 66s to run away with the individual event.
Brent Pound was the second-best TRU golfer, shooting 76-76 to finish 22nd, with Matt Davis third among WolfPack players, his 156 total leaving him tied for 29th. Ryan Skinner (159) tied for 32nd, with Matt Rittinger (163) in 37th and Blake Gozda (164) in 38th.
The Cascades’ Jen Woods won the female competition, shooting 152 to win by five over teammate Dani Shap. TRU’s Natasha MacKenzie fired 177 to tie for sixth, with Britt Riehl, the WolfPack’s other female, 11th at 200.
The next conference tournament is on Sept. 28-29 in Victoria. The Camosun Chargers will play host to the event at Bear Mountain Golf Course.
