This is in response to the Monday story, Volunteers Give Low-Rent Landlord Helping Hands.
I was asked by a fellow named Patrick to go over to Carson Street and speak with Debra Powell, who had been gratefully accepting the help of 11 volunteers who were working diligently around the rooming house property.
As mentioned within the article, the United Way and ASK Wellness had provided funds from its recent Dining Out for Life fundraiser for Powell.
Why? She is a private citizen providing affordable rent to 13 Kamloops impoverished tenants. That is a noble cause, indeed.
Also mentioned within the article was Kamloops Arbourscapes Tree Service, which is donating its time for the tree services. Kamloops Superior Roofing Ltd. will be helping out with any roof issues.
That’s quite an honour to be asked to talk with Powell and be within the company of such good people and this noteworthy cause. Thank-you. I am the owner of Superior Roofing Ltd. and I would like to ask that other area contractors and volunteers consider contacting Debra Powell.
She is a Kamloops diamond in the rough. The article was correct. Low-rent landlords are a relatively rare breed, providing rental accommodation for people who otherwise might not have a place to call home.
