A Chase senior convicted of selling crack cocaine to an undercover Mountie received 10 months in jail.
Ernest Klassen was a renter living above a closed fruit stand last winter when he was the target of an RCMP drug operation. On Nov. 25, RCMP raided his apartment, seizing about $2,000 worth of cocaine and $5,000 worth of marijuana. Police also seized a small amount of magic mushrooms.
The raid came after the undercover female Mountie purchased $150 worth of crack cocaine from Klassen.
The 60-year-old man was convicted in July by B.C. Supreme Court Justice John Steeves of two counts of trafficking in cocaine and one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Steeves found Klassen not guilty of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, saying there was no evidence of packaging or attempts at sales shown by the Crown.
Klassen represented himself at trial, called no evidence and asked only three questions in cross-examination.
