Jesse Jones of Kamloops is one of eight finalists who will take part in the Senior Star competition in Niagara Falls on Nov. 5.
Forty-five regional contests were held at Chartwell retirement residences across Canada during June. Jones performed Georgia on My Mind.
He studied voice and theatre and eventually went on to play drums and saxophone in various rock and jazz bands in the '60s.
“(Music) is the one constant that expresses my soul and being,” he said.
Kamloops resident Jeanne Rodrigue was the national winner in 2009.
