The Daily News issued notice to staff this week that it will be closing its prepress department in January.
The newspaper is entering into an agreement with Affinity Express, a company based in Chicago, to handle design and production of advertising.
Seven staff members — four full-time and three part-time — will be affected by the change, while two graphic designers will remain with the paper.
"This is a move that has been done by newspaper companies across Canada," said publisher Tim Shoults. "While it is never desirable to say goodbye to employees, it is a necessary step to reduce costs and ensure the viability of our business."
