A Sept. 28 letter drew attention to the idea of paying it forward.
Yes, there are still many good people out there. And we do often complain about our lives and others, but when something like that happens, it fills you with love for mankind.
However, the act of buying someone a beer in a drinking establishment hardly embraces the greater concept of paying it forward. The example used is circular; if one sits long enough or returns often enough, that beer comes back to you. It’s the equivalent of buying rounds, taking turns.
I confess to having many warm fuzzy feelings while slightly, or much intoxicated. But nothing compares with the warm fuzzies I’ve had truly passing on something meaningful and helpful to another human in need.
And thank you for reminding me of my responsibility to contribute to our society.
