Syrians fleeing from their terrifying and dangerous surroundings are heading to refugee camps in droves and they need help with basic comforts.
The Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Kamloops is stepping up to provide warmth as the cold season approaches.
The church is calling on the people of Kamloops to donate new and gently used sweaters for Syrian refugees facing yet another harsh winter.
The sweaters will be distributed to refugees living in the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan.
About 125,000 live in tents and lack warm clothing after having fled their communities with little more than the clothes on their backs.
“The weather conditions in the desolate Jordanian desert are another hardship on top of the traumas suffered through the brutal civil war,” said Pastor Gordon Heselton.
Sweaters of all sizes are needed. The goal is to collect 10,000 sweaters and dispatch them to Jordan in time for winter.
Donations can be left no later than Oct. 27 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church at 2481 Sunset Drive behind the car dealerships in Valleyview.
