I had the privilege of hearing Cmdr. Chris Hadfield on Friday night, one of a crowd which must have been the largest the university has ever had. I want to commend those in charge of accommodating this huge number of people, especially as they had no idea how many would come.
When we arrived at 6:20 p.m., the Great Hall was full and we were directed downstairs in an endless queue for what seemed miles in the depths of the activity centre.
We were then immediately directed back upstairs into one of two huge rooms filled with chairs, and a satellite video set-up.
The university president brought Cmdr. Hadfield into each of the satellite rooms where he greeted us, and I later did not feel that I had lost any of the presentation by not being in the Great Hall. The organizers deserve much credit for facilitating order instead of what could have been complete chaos.
Cmdr. Hadfield is a brilliant, personable man, and his talk was both informative and entertaining. A truly great Canadian.
