Talking with my dad, who volunteers at Tranquille on the Lake, I was so saddened to hear about what he witnessed on a recent Saturday.
He was out at where Tranquille Creek empties into Kamloops Lake on Oct. 5 and saw some families watching the salmon spawning. The parents were watching their children throw rocks, branches and even some small logs into the shallow creek at the salmon trying to kill them.
He asked the parents and the kids exactly what they were doing, to which he was just given blank stares and a mouthy attitude.
He asked them to stop and told them how lucky they were that a fisheries officer wasn’t there, as they were breaking the law. He told the kids that if they wanted future fish to eat that they had better stop what they were doing and think about it.
Seriously, what is wrong with people? Parents, please teach your kids to respect our environment, our wildlife and also private property.
