Halloween hasn’t even come and gone yet, but Operation Red Nose is already looking for volunteers to help out during this year’s Christmas holiday season.
This is the 17th year that Red Nose has operated in Kamloops. Not only is it a good way to keep people from drinking and driving, but it also serves as a fundraiser for PacificSport.
Last year’s Operation Red Nose raised $24,635 for PacificSport, which helps support amateur athletes in town. More than 400 volunteers logged 20,000 kilometres getting people home safely.
This year, Operation Red Nose needs another 250 volunteers to fill a variety of positions. They include designated drivers, escort drivers, navigators, phone operators and dispatchers.
Some volunteers get together with friends, family or co-workers to make up road teams of three to drive, escort and navigate people home with their vehicles.
The dates of operation are Nov. 29 and 30, Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 31, and the hours of service are from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Katie Klassen at 250-320-0650 or email her at email@example.com.
Volunteer application forms are located at the Tournament Capital Centre, RCMP office or Volunteer Kamloops.
