Josie Spence of Kamloops has qualified for the first four World Cups of the long track speed skating season.
Spence, 19, competed at Speed Skating Canada’s World Cup Fall Trials in Calgary on the weekend, and finished in the top five in two distances. According to a Speed Skating Canada news release, “The top five racers in all distances qualify to race the first four World Cups of the season.”
Spence, a product of the River City Racers, finished third in the 5,000 metres on Sunday.
She also was fifth in the 1,500m.
The first two stops are in Calgary and Salt Lake City, before the World Cup circuit heads to Kazakhstan and Germany.
