Five skaters from the Valleyview Skating Club competed at the Autumn Leaves figure skating competition in Chilliwack on the weekend, their first competition of the season.
MacKenzie Sewell competed in the Star 4 girls event, taking fifth, while BrieAnna Gibson was seventh in the senior bronze ladies. Jana DeJong also cracked the top-10, taking eighth in the pre-juvenile ladies.
Cassandra Labermeyer skated to 10th in the junior silver ladies, while Haley Barber took 11th in the Star 5 girls competition.
The skaters are set to compete at the Jingle Blades competition in Vancouver from Nov. 22-24.

Adam Ballingall has been named Canada West’s defensive football player of the week.
Ballingall, a South Kamloops grad, plays defensive back for the U of Calgary Dinos, who beat the Regina Rams 46-27 on Saturday. The third-year engineering student, who played quarterback and DB for the Titans, helped break open Friday’s victory.
In addition to recording two solo tackles and two assisted tackles, Ballingall intercepted a pass and returned it 63 yards to the Regina 18-yard line. His teammate, Mercer Timmins scored on the next play, giving him a conference-record 18 touchdowns on the season.
The undefeated Dinos are scheduled to play host to the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday.

The Kamloops Rugby Club Raiders played host to Bayside at the Tournament Capital Ranch on Saturday.
The Raiders firsts lost 55-14, while the KRC seconds won a thriller, 32-29. Kamloops’ women went to Burnaby for a game, winning 30-27.

The TRU WolfPack baseball team finished its fall exhibition season with a split in Kelowna.
The WolfPack lost 8-6 in the opener of the Sunday doubleheader, before knocking off the Okanagan College Coyotes 8-5. TRU was 14-4-3 in the fall season, its last bit of game action before spring training in the U.S. in February.
Mike Riddle started for the WolfPack in the opener, but Regan Gillis took the loss in relief. Evan Douglas hit a double and drove in a run.
Peter Werth started the second game, with reliever Emilio Foden picking up the win with a five-inning effort. Josh Hillis was 3-for-4 with a double, and James Oliver drove in two runs. Jordy Cunningham drove in three runs on a triple and a single.
