On Oct. 7 we received a yellow notice on our garbage cans for having them out early.
I called City Hall that day to explain my circumstances. I spoke to at least two people but it wasn’t their department. Someone was away but I was told to expect a call in a few days. Well that didn’t happen.
My husband is 85 years old and has the worst case of shingles that anyone has seen. He has been in and out hospital for two months, and is still in hospital in severe pain.
I told whoever I spoke with that when he is home, I am up most times on the hour every hour to get him on the walker to the washroom or take medications. I am over 70 years old and am exhausted.
I used to set the alarm to get the garbage out, but because we have never had a bear problem here in this neighbourhood, in the 17 years that we lived here. I put the garbage out at night and nothing happened that night either.
So on Oct. 15, I opened my front door to a $100 fine. (No phone call returned from city hall to explain my circumstances.)
I think this is excessive for anyone, let alone old age pensioners, very disappointing.
Yet we Campbell Creek residents are still paying for reverse osmosis and filters, plus water softener for our water system and products to keep it running until we get city water that we have been paying for the past 17 years and not getting.
One would think that the thousands we put out could take care of this fine.
My husband Lloyd would be taking care of this but he is still in hospital, no need to add to his stress.
