RCMP want to know why a pickup and car collided on Hugh Allan Drive that left one motorist trapped beneath his vehicle.
A westbound Dodge struck the eastbound four-door sedan in front of Kamloops Seniors Village at about 11:20 a.m. Saturday.
Fire and Rescue Capt. Darryl Cooper said the impact caused the Dodge to flip onto its side. Firefighters found the driver pinned beneath the vehicle, his head wedged between the passenger’s side door and the asphalt.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to raise the vehicle and pull the man to safety. Cooper said the driver was conscious at the time.
“We basically lifted the truck off of him,” he said.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Fran Bethell said a 50-year-old Kamloops man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in critical condition. On Sunday, he remained in the intensive care unit.
The driver of the car was shaken but unharmed.
The accident and resulting investigation closed a section of Hugh Allan for several hours. A traffic analyst was on scene Saturday afternoon.
