Drug addicts will smash a car window for as little as $4 in loose change, Kamloops RCMP say.
"The loose change, sunglasses, phone chargers, cameras, or even better, the laptop, cellphone or wallet that is left in your vehicle, is traded for their next fix," Cpl. Cheryl Bush said.
"If there are no target items visible in the vehicle, chances are they will move on to the next one."
Thefts from vehicles have gone up 27 per cent from the same time last year as thieves work their way through neighbourhoods throughout Kamloops.
The main drugs of addiction are meth, crack cocaine and heroin. Users support a habit for between $10 and $200 a day.
"An addict can get their daily fix for $10, which may be as simple as a pair of sunglasses taken from your vehicle," Bush said.
