Westsyde's hall of famers

Westsyde secondary school football alumnus and retired Winnipeg Blue Bombers lineman Dave Vankoughnett (centre) poses for a photo with 1975-76 Whundas teammates Kim Klaws (left), Steve Maartman, Les Noel, Tony Gray and Don McConnell. About 180 players and guests attended a Westsyde Football Awards Banquet and Hall of Fame induction ceremony Thursday night at The Dunes at Westsyde. Hall of Fame inductees included the 1975-76 team, which was the school’s first foray into football and defeated Kam High in Kam High’s home-opener. Vankoughnett was recognized as a player recipient while Bob Bridges was recognized as a builder. Vankoughnett travelled to the banquet from his home in Winnipeg, where he works as a centre manager for the YMCA-YWCA. Bridges was unable to attend as he is currently coaching high school girls basketball in Arizona.
