Don's Towing truck driver Pat Jansen throws a chain up onto the road while working to get his tow cable connected to this four-wheel-drive truck Monday morning in Rayleigh.

Highway 1 was re-opened at about 3 p.m. Monday after being closed for about three hours due to an accident involving two semi-trailer trucks and two vehicles.

The crash was one of several caused by icy roads between Monte Creek and Squilax. There were no serious injuries reported.

Cpl. Mark Skotnicki of Chase RCMP urged people to stay off the highway.

"Don't drive if you don't have to. It looks like an actual skating rink."

Conditions were also bad on Highway 5 near Rayleigh, with at least one truck winding up in the ditch.

In addition to icy surfaces, blowing snow made for limited visibility.

An accident temporarily closed Highway 1 near the Lytton turnoff and a travel advisory was issued for the Coquihalla around Merritt.
