Man guilty of possessing, distributing child porn

A 52-year-old man pleaded guilty in Salmon Arm court to possession of child pornography for the purpose of distribution.

Bruce Darcy Abar, 52, will serve 90 days jail on weekends. He was given the minimum sentence under the Criminal Code.

Abar was also given a year probation, during which time his access to pornography is banned. He must also take counseling as required.

Neil MacKenzie, a spokesman with the Crown counsel service of B.C., said the charges relate to a RCMP investigation between Jan. 9 and March 1, 2011.

“It came about after an undercover police investigation,” he said.

“Police determined he’d downloaded images containing child pornography through file-sharing and he made some images available online to others.”
