Steam stops Storm's streak

The Kamloops Storm’s 12-game winning streak ended Sunday evening in Summerland, where Sam Nigg scored in overtime to lead the Steam to a 5-4 victory.

Kamloops hadn’t lost since Nov. 1, and now is 25-5-0-1 and first in the KIJHL’s Doug Birks Division.

Nigg and Reid Brown also scored in regulation, and Kienan Scott scored twice, including the tying goal with 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

Max James, Bobby Kashuba, Austin Braid and Brock Balson scored for the Storm, which got 31 saves from Wade Moyls.

At McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre on Saturday, Kamloops defeated the Columbia Valley Rockies 5-3. James had three goals, with Luke Gordon and Kashuba scoring one apiece.

Josh Rasmussen, Braid and Stefan Wood each had two assists, and Liam McLeod stopped 17 shots.

Peter Matthews, Logan Kerner and Dustin Boone scored for the Rockies, who got two assists from Nigel Swab and single assists from Kamloops natives Jerome Thorne and Dario Piva. Brody Nelson stopped 34 shots.

Kamloops is scheduled to play the Wranglers in 100 Mile House on Friday.

The Rockies went on to lose 5-4 in overtime to the Heat in Chase on Sunday. Kaleb Boyle had the winner, and also scored in regulation, with Trevor Okino, Kurtis Johnson and Nicholas Fidanza each adding a goal. Jacob Mattes stopped 29 shots in the victory.

Kamloops native Kyle Pouncy had a goal and an assist for Columbia Valley, with Braeden Farge, Matthew Houston and Mitchell Rosko also scoring.

Chase is home to Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m.
